A new high school sports season has arrived in South Dakota.

Some area high school girls tennis and boys and girls soccer teams opened their seasons this past week.

There was enough going on in northeastern South Dakota that we've come up with eight candidates for our first Public Opinion/Aberdeen News Athlete of the Week poll of the fall season.

Voting will remain open until midnight on Sunday, Aug. 24.
