We often hear about national park visitors breaking the rules, from getting too close to wild animals to tasting the thermal water at Yellowstone National Park. Yet, reading about employees not following park regulations is way more unusual.

This is allegedly what happened at Yosemite National Park a few months ago when a staff member placed a transgender pride flag on the iconic El Capitan . The following day, the National Park Service updated its prohibited item policy, specifying that banners, flags, and signs larger than fifteen square feet would no longer be allowed. Park officials have now terminated the worker hoisting the flag and placed two other employees on administrative leave.
