(CNN) - Patients in the United States can now get the popular diabetes and weight loss drug Ozempic for half the price.
Novo Nordisk, the maker of the GLP-1 drug Ozempic, announced Monday that U.S. patients can now get a month’s supply for just under $500. It typically carries a list price of around $1,000 a month.
The deal is for those who pay for medications on their own and don’t go through insurance.
This comes as President Donald Trump is pressuring drugmakers to lower drug costs. He and lawmakers have called out popular but pricey GLP-1 drugs, which are used for diabetes and weight loss, noting they are much more expensive in the U.S. than in other countries.
Novo Nordisk rival Eli Lilly has also slashed the price of its GLP-1 drug, Zepbound, for self-pay patients.
