A recent communications blackout within the Boston Police Department has prompted concern among city councilors.

The outage happened overnight Sunday into Monday, at the same time as multiple violent incidents unfolding in the city , according to city councilors Ed Flynn and Erin Murphy. The issue came just weeks after the department adopted a new radio system.

Councilors Murphy and Flynn have issued a letter addressed directly to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, demanding accountability and transparency from the department.
