Mayor Eric Adams is suing the city’s Campaign Finance Board to force the release of $4.7 million in public matching funds for his reelection campaign.
In the lawsuit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn, Adams and his campaign accused the board of acting “arbitrarily, capriciously, and unconstitutionally” by denying the funds earlier this month .
The complaint argues the board has shown “anti-democratic bias” against the mayor, citing its repeated rejections since late 2024 .
The board first began withholding funds following Adams’ federal corruption indictment last year.
Although the case was dismissed in April , the board has continued to deny his requests, citing incomplete documentation and saying there was reason to believe the campaign violated the law.
