Catawba County expects to receive a report about the Hickory City Schools’ projected growth and enrollment by the end of September. The report will be the next step as the county considers how to save money on projected school construction costs.

After receiving and analyzing the report, the county will begin a “community conversation regarding school facility needs,” Catawba County Manager Mary Furtado told the Catawba County Board of Commissioners at Monday night’s meeting.

The study is the result of discussion of merging some or all of the county's three school districts.

Furtado said community listening sessions will happened in mid-October through mid-November.

The county is planning to hold four listening sessions, one each in Conover, Maiden, Hickory and Sherrills Ford, she said
