Catawba County could get a life sciences campus if the county and other partners are able to develop a plan for the business development.
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of seven pieces of lands totaling 29.18 acres in southeastern Catawba County for $3.65 million at Monday night’s board meeting.
A life sciences campus would likely include small pharmaceutical manufacturers and other biotech companies, Catawba County Economic Development Corporation President Scott Millar said.
“Life sciences is a really big umbrella,” economic development director Nathan Huret said. “Think of anything related to health care, your life, oncology treatments, all these things … that help improve our life, health and safety is life sciences.”
