DES MOINES, Iowa —

Iowa state Rep. Lindsay James is entering the race for Congress in 2026.

James, a Democrat representing Dubuque, announced her campaign Tuesday morning. She will run for the 2nd Congressional District seat currently held by Republican Ashley Hinson. The 2nd District encompasses northeast Iowa.

James is a Presbyterian chaplain and is currently in her fourth term at the Statehouse.

“Every Iowan deserves a fair shot to build the life they deserve,” James said in a news release announcing her campaign. “I will listen and be their voice in Congress, fighting to make life better for families across our district. We need to come together to build a stronger, fairer Iowa where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
