AUSTIN, Texas — Texas State Rep. Nicole Collier, D-Fort Worth, is making headlines as she remains on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives after she refused to sign a document to be assigned a law enforcement escort to monitor her and ensure her return when the House reconvenes.

Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows said the lawmakers who left the state and returned Monday, ending a weeks-long standoff over redistricting , were only allowed to leave the chamber with permission and a Texas Department of Public Safety escort, who will remain with them until the Texas House reconvenes Wednesday. More than 50 Texas House Democrats had left the state earlier this month to break quorum in the Texas House and delay GOP efforts to pass new congressional maps.
