JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas — A knife-wielding person was shot and killed by deputies in Johnson County in North Texas early Monday, officials say.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to an unincorporated area near Joshua regarding a person armed with a knife early Aug. 18.

Deputies shot the person during the encounter and the person was then taken to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead, officials say.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the person who was shot, officials say.
