NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A gun was detected at a Nashville high school on Tuesday morning, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Police said a 17-year-old student was arrested after a loaded gun was found in his backpack.

The weapon was detected after he went through the Evolv detection system upon walking into the building of Maplewood High School.

“The student initially stated he believed it was his laptop that caused the alert, but school staff searched his backpack and located the weapon,” MNPD said.

The student said the gun wasn’t his and refused to answer any of the officers’ questions, according to MNPD.
