CAMERON — The City of Cameron is reminding residents of proper battery disposal.

Residents are asked to not throw batteries in household trash, but instead dispose of them at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at 521 S. Elm St.

The reminder comes as the city reports a fire occurred Tuesday morning inside of a trash truck allegedly caused by a lithium battery The city says in the release that the quick actions of the trash crew resulted in the fire being contained and no serious damage caused.
