KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - On Tuesday, dozens of area sports coaches, experts, and leaders gathered for lessons on how to ensure all kids achieve success in sports.
The Aspen Institute in partnership with Children’s Mercy Hospital hosted the conference at The Kauffman Foundation Center with 150 on hand - all working in collaboration to tackle barriers in the way for kids who want to participate.
The Aspen Institute found cost and lack of transportation as leading barriers both nationwide , and in Kansas City .
Cost rose to the top as a major barrier for many families, showing the average cost more than a $1,000 per year to keep a child in sports.
