WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Our first stop on the Rising Star Roadtrip takes us to Ellsworth, where Kate Rathbun is making history for the Bearcats – on one leg.
Kate Rathbun, a senior at Ellsworth High School, faces more challenges than the average cross country runner, but that’s all she has ever known. Still, it hasn’t slowed her down.
“I know a lot of people have never seen that before,” Kate explained.
Kate has congenital limb loss; she was born without bones in her left foot and has grown up as an amputee.
“It’s not genetic, and there’s not really a reason behind it – it just happened. They knew before I was born that I was missing part of my foot,” she said.
