A 13-year-old was killed in a Marblehead crash early Tuesday, and the 16-year-old who was apparently driving was subsequently charged with operating under the influence, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office .

At 2:51 a.m., Marblehead Police responded to a report of a crash near 352 Atlantic Ave.

Marblehead Police and Fire said the vehicle had extensive damage, according to a statement from the District Attorney’s Office.

The 13-year-old passenger had suffered life-threatening injuries and was eventually pronounced dead at the scene, according to the DA’s Office.
