OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday that the state is taking legal action against two major textbook publishers, alleging the companies are overcharging school districts for instructional materials and promoting "political" agendas.

The governor made the announcement during a press conference in St. Cloud alongside Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and Florida Department of Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas.

DeSantis cited a whistleblower complaint filed with Uthmeier's office, which accused McGraw Hill LLC and Savvas Learning Company LLC of violating state law by overcharging school districts by millions of dollars for learning materials.

Both publishing companies denied overcharging the state in emailed statements to First Coast News.
