WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - President Donald Trump says U.S. troops will not be on the ground in Ukraine while he's president. The announcement follows a meeting between President Trump, European leaders and the Ukrainian president about how to end the war in Ukraine.

Russia’s said repeatedly it won't accept any NATO troops in Ukraine. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he needs guarantees to make sure Russia doesn't try to invade again.

President Trump says European leaders are willing to guarantee Ukraine’s security once the war ends.

“When it comes to security, they're willing to put people on the ground, we're willing to help them with things, especially probably if you talk by air,” said Trump.
