DOOR COUNTY, Wis. -- A woman was found dead in the water near the Nicolet Bay Campground at Peninsula State Park in Door County on Tuesday morning.

Several agencies responded to the scene and located the body of a 61-year-old woman. The Door County Sheriff's Office said the woman has been identified and notification of next of kin is underway.

Peninsula State Park remains open to visitors. Officials encourage parkgoers to remain cautious and well-prepared when exploring remote or rugged areas of the park.

An investigation is ongoing.
