BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) – Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells said no foul play was involved in the death of Giovanni Pelletier, the North Carolina 18-year-old who went missing a week before his body was found in a Florida retention pond.

Pelletier had arrived in Florida to visit with family and was last seen walking away from a vehicle along Interstate 75 in Manatee County on Aug. 1, prompting a statewide search for the teen.

A family friend located the body of Pelletier a week later near a retention pond. The advanced state of decomposition required an autopsy and additional testing to positively identify the body.
