Hurricane Erin, the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season, continues to barrel through the Atlantic and, while it will not make landfall in the United States, New Jersey and much of the East Coast are feeling its effects.
Erin, as of 11 a.m. Aug. 19, was moving northwest with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Life-threatening surf, storm surge and beach erosion are expected in various areas along the coast.
Evecuations were underway along parts of North Carolina's Outer banks, USA TODAY reported Aug. 19, with officials in Dare County warning that roads, including the main exit route, could soon be underwater.
