The Healey administration said Tuesday that it’s fast-tracking $5.7 million to 10 cities and towns to help beef up staffing at fire and police departments statewide.

The money comes in direct response to a deadly fire that tore through Gabriel House, an assisted living facility in Fall River, last month, killing 10 people and hospitalizing dozens more.

The union representing Fall River firefighters said adequate staffing levels would have saved more lives .

Fall River is expected to receive $1.6 million in assistance through the state’s Municipal Public Safety Staffing Program, the Healey administration said in a statement.

The money will be evenly split between the city’s fire and police departments, with each receiving a little more than $805,000, according to Healey’s office.
