WILMINGTON, N.C. (WBTW) -- Three firefighters were injured during a gas explosion at a veterinary medical center in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Tuesday, officials said on Facebook.

The incident happened at Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center, the Wilmington Fire Department said. It happened after a gas leak call just after 11 a.m. when a car hit the building, rupturing a gas line.

All three firefighters were taken to a hospital -- two with non-life-threatening injuries and one with severe burns to their hands and arms -- according to officials. Firefighters were doing a primary search to ensure the building was empty when the explosion happened.
