The choral director at Brockton High School was arrested Tuesday for allegedly paying a minor for a sex act in the Massachusetts city this spring, officials said.

Matthew Cunningham, 35, was taken into custody at his home in Brockton on charges of paying for sex and trafficking a person for sexual servitude and ordered held on $25,000 bail after pleading not guilty, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.

Cunningham was placed on leave when Brockton Public Schools officials learned of his arrest, a district representative said, adding, "We are deeply troubled by the allegations in this case."
