Pennsylvania Democratic and Republican strategists alike say Treasurer Stacy Garrity has an uphill battle in her race for governor, a seat occupied by a popular Democratic incumbent in Gov. Josh Shapiro.
After Ms. Garrity announced her bid Monday in a video that spent much of its three minutes attacking Mr. Shapiro, political observers told the Post-Gazette that name recognition and fundraising for a gubernatorial race in the critical swing state could prove challenging for the two-term Republican treasurer.
But Republicans and Democrats also said Mr. Shapiro — widely expected to run for re-election and perhaps seek the White House two years later — would face a credible and formidable opponent in Ms. Garrity, a retired U.S. Army Reserve colonel and businesswoman from Bradford County.
