RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A sergeant at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center has been arrested after investigators said she assaulted an inmate during an incident last month.
Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of 47-year-old Johnette Pinckney-Martinez, who is charged with assault and battery 3rd degree and misconduct in office.
According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the investigation began on August 18, 2025, when an investigator at the detention center reported an assault that occurred on July 15 at around 3:40 p.m. Deputies said Sgt. Pinckney-Martinez’s account of the incident did not match those of other guards who were on scene.
Body-worn camera footage reviewed by investigators showed Pinckney-Martinez cornering an inmate and striking him several times in the face
