The Ector County Commissioners Court met Tuesday and ended the meeting with plans to offer a 6 p.m. Sept. 4 public hearing for residents to speak about the county budget and proposed higher tax rate for next year.

The property rate increase will cost Ector County residents about an extra $90 per $100,000 of home value. Example, homes valued at $200,000 would pay an extra $180 a year while those with a $400,000 home will pay an extra $360 a year in property taxes.

The increase will help fund the new county courthouse, which was a big topic during Tuesday’s meeting. Commissioners heard from April Pottorf about plans for both the justice of the peace and adult probation offices. Pottorf is part of the team allocating space in the new courthouse for the various county courts and offices.
