AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Several organizations came together Tuesday in Akron to call for a ceasefire over the upcoming holiday weekend.
Nonstop Growth, H.Y.P.E. (Helping Young People Elevate), and Freedom Bloc are asking the community to participate in a 72-hour “crime ceasefire” over Labor Day weekend.
“Our kids are dying, so every instance of gun violence is dear to our hearts. No one incident is higher than the other. These are our babies. Every incident is real, every incident is the same, and every incident is a heartbreak to us,” said Reverend Ray Greene Jr.
This ceasefire is an effort by these three organizations to curb violence over holiday weekend, a time when crime historically spikes.
