ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has suspended the registration of the SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina’s animal shelter, citing repeated and serious violations of the state’s Animal Welfare Act.
In a notice issued Monday, officials said the shelter must immediately cease operations and stop accepting new animals, except those brought in by Pasquotank County Animal Control for rabies observation. The order gives the shelter 30 days to transfer all animals currently in its care to other licensed shelters or rescues.
