SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. —
Solano County will have a new sheriff.
The Solano County Board of Supervisors last week appointed Undersheriff Brad DeWall as its next sheriff-coroner to succeed Tom Ferrara.
Ferrara announced he would step down on Sept. 25 after 42 years in law enforcement, with 13 of those years leading the Solano County Sheriff’s Office.
Ferrara was first appointed to his role from undersheriff in 2012 after being recommended by former Sheriff Gary Stanton, who was retiring. He was then elected sheriff in 2014.
In his own retirement letter, Ferrara recommended his own undersheriff to take the helm of the office with three years remaining in his six-year term. Ferrara said that would “minimize disruption to the department and ensure operational consistency.”
