President Donald Trump has put congressional Republicans in a bad spot, according to one analyst.
The Trump administration has tried to outrun the Jeffrey Epstein files story for more than two months. During the campaign, Trump promised to release the files once elected. However, his administration has quickly pivoted and, to date, declined to release any new information about the files, which has nearly fractured Trump's MAGA base.
Tim Miller, who was Jeb Bush's communications director during the 2016 election, joined MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace on "Deadline: White House" to discuss the events. He argued that Republicans are "carrying the biggest political brunt" of the issue.
"They look so weak," Miller said. "They're not doing what they promised their voters they would do."
Miller added that the issues Republicans face are likely to persist past the 2026 midterm election because of the way they handled the Epstein files story. The story has captivated the MAGA base for more than two years, and few Republican lawmakers want to see what a Democratic House would do with the files, he argued.
"If Democrats ever regain power, they will want to look at that information, and that will lead to other information, maybe other people, and the media cycle will continue again," Miller said.
"Trump has really put them in a pickle, I think," he added.
