LACONIA, N.H. —

The retrial of a man accused of killing his friend with a sword at a home in Laconia began Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Hassan Sapry was 24 when he killed Wilfred Guzman, 57, in 2019.

Sapry is accused of attacking Guzman with a samurai sword along with other items, including kitchen utensils.

Guzman's son, a Staten Island police officer, testified that he traveled to Laconia to visit his father and then called for police to do a welfare check when no one answered the door.

"I was waiting outside, and she approached me, and just by her facial expression, I knew it wasn't going to be good news," said Wilfred Guzman Jr. "So, I asked her if my father was DOA."
