WILMINGTON, N.C. - An explosion at a veterinary center in North Carolina has left three firefighters hurt.

What we know:

The Wilmington Fire Department said on Tuesday a car went off the road and hit the Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center.

A gas line ruptured and then burst into flames.

The injured firefighters were battling the fire. It's reported that one of them had severe burns to the hands.

Authorities said the driver who hit the building fled the scene but was later captured and taken into custody.
