GAINESVILLE — Former Orlando Jones standout Vernell Brown III was destined to become a Florida Gator, despite overtures and offers from the nation’s top programs.

Becoming a factor at UF was less assured, even for the top-rated member of coach Billy Napier’s 2025 class. But Brown, the son and grandson former Gators , has lived up to his billing, perhaps even exceeded expectations while capitalizing on his opportunity.

The Gators’ deep, talented receiving corps has been slowed by lower-leg injuries to veteran Tre Wilson and true freshman phenom Dallas Wilson , two of three projected starters entering fall camp — along with UCLA transfer J. Michael Sturdivant .
