Preliminary Investigation Finds Driver Lacked English Proficiency; Washington and New Mexico Cited for Violating Federal Rules
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has announced a federal investigation into the fatal August 12 crash on the Florida Turnpike that killed three Americans. The probe, led by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), will examine the driver, Harjinder Singh, and his employer, White Hawk Carriers, Inc., based in California.
According to a press release from the U.S. Department of Transportation, preliminary findings indicate that the driver, an illegal immigrant , failed a required English Language Proficiency (ELP) assessment conducted by investigators.
