LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arkansas woman was sentenced to probation on Tuesday for removing some human remains from a Native American archeological site.
Jonathan D. Ross, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, stated in a media release that Kristy Loree Gordon, of Quitman, was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 6, 2023. Ross noted a one-count indictment charging Gordon with "excavating, removing, damaging, and otherwise altering and defacing an archaeological resource located on public lands."
On March 13, Gordan pled guilty and was given four years' probation. She agreed to pay $16,135.32 for the cost of restoration and repair to the site.
