PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Sports) - Welcome to the Days of 47 at BYU.

For the first time in school history, a true freshman is going to start at quarterback for the Cougars in the season opener.

Offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick announced on Tuesday that Bear Bachmeier, who wears #47, has beat out McCae Hillstead and Treyson Bourget for the starting quarterback job.

"He throws a lot of completions," Roderick said. "He's really accurate. He's done a great job in camp taking care of the football and has thrown the fewest fewest interceptions of all the guys. He throws a really high completion percentage and a lot of explosive plays."
