HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Houston County plans to slightly reduce its property tax millage rate this year by about five hundredths of a mill. However, homeowners with increased property values may still see a rise in their tax bills because the county did not lower the rate to the rollback level.

Dozens of residents attended a recent Houston County millage rate meeting to express their concerns. Commissioners confirmed they do not intend to cut the rate back to the rollback level, meaning many homeowners will pay more this year .

“If this keeps going, I’m gonna be back in the workforce," said a concerned resident, voicing his concern for seniors.
