COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is warning everyone about a phone scam involving someone pretending to be from the CBI.
Investigators said they have received reports of scammers pretending to be a CBI Cyber Crimes Special Agent.
They said the scammer typically says they have detected a cybercrime and asks the victim for personal information, including financial accounts and remote access to their computer.
According to investigators, the scammer also gives a callback number that is not associated with the CBI.
The CBI said the scammers seem professional and could have a surprising amount of real information about both the caller and the CBI.
Investigators wanted to warn the public that the CBI will never request a payment over the phone.
