SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WILX) - Michigan native CJ Carr was named as Notre Dame’s starting quarterback on Wednesday morning.

Carr is entering his second season with the Fighting Irish and was in a QB competition with Kenny Minchey all offseason for the starting job.

Notre Dame made the announcement on social media that Carr had won the job following the conclusion of Fall Camp.

CJ is the grandson of former longtime Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr and son of former Michigan football player Jason Carr. CJ was a three-time all-state quarterback at Saline High School and chose to go to Notre Dame over Michigan and other offers.

Carr will start in Notre Dame’s opener on Aug. 31 at No. 10 Miami.
