PORTLAND, Mich. (WILX) - Portland High School football has been a dominant force in the area and in the CAAC White in recent years under the leadership of 27th-year head coach John Novara.
“At some point in my career we turned a corner, and then there was an expectation. The kids bought into the work ethic and saw all the fun we had,” said Novara.
The Raiders have qualified for the playoffs in 10 consecutive seasons and are coming off an 11-and-1 season. The Raiders’ only loss last year was to Niles, a 37-34 heartbreaker in the regionals.
Portland is breaking in a new starting quarterback this season after losing former 3-year starter Dominic Novara to graduation.
The Raiders open the season August 28th vs. Detroit Country Day.
