As the school year begins, a Parkview Physicians Group pediatrician is urging parents to make sure their children have received all the recommended vaccinations.

Dr. Tony GiaQuinta said vaccines are "very safe and very effective" despite increased hesitancy, according to a Tuesday news release.

“We talk a lot of times that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and that’s true in the case of vaccinations,” he said in a statement. “As a pediatrician, my ultimate goal is to keep your child as safe and healthy as they can be. And vaccinations allow children to live out their healthiest lives.”

The percentage of children completing the recommended series of childhood immunizations has declined in 8 of 11 northeast Indiana counties over the past five years.
