GRAND FORKS — The Northlands Rescue Mission is reopening its food pantry after being down to its final few cans of beans just a week ago .

Thanks to donations from the community, the pantry was closed for only a week and a half, after mission leaders initially expected it to be closed for up to 90 days.

Community members brought in 4,500 pounds of food to restock the shelves.

Mission Executive Director Everett Jones said more than 40 families came through within the first couple of hours of reopening.

“The turnaround was amazing. I mean, you know, the week that we took off, we were able to get everything stocked, get everything put away neatly and organized and ready to rock and roll. Today, the community showed up in an amazing way, and it just goes to speak to the heart of the comm
