Election officials in El Paso County were skeptical that attempts by President Donald Trump to eliminate mail-in voting would come through or benefit the county's voters.
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Monday that he wanted to sign an executive order to "help bring HONESTY to the 2026 Midterm Elections" by eliminating both mail-in voting and voting machines in the near future.
In the post, Trump repeated his previous unverified claims that the mail system allows for massive voter fraud that benefitted Democrats and incorrectly stated that the United States was the only country that allows voting by mail.
El Paso County Clerk Steve Schleiker said the separation of powers in the U.S. Constitution means that Trump cannot change elections with an executive order.
