SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Expect to see improvements on South Townsend Street, as reconstruction is set to revamp the road.

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced the project on South Townsend Street will close the road from Erie Boulevard to Washington Street on Wednesday, August 20, to facilitate curb improvements. The construction will continue from Washington Street to Fayette Street next week.

The closures will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Traffic detours will be in place during the duration of the road reconstruction.

Public transit riders should check Centro.org for possible route adjustments.

Milling and paving the road will follow the replacement of the curbs.
