WASHINGTON — WUSA9 crews have spotted more out-of-state National Guard troops from South Carolina and West Virginia out in the District. Our cameras caught busloads of guardsmen and women arriving at the DC Armory on Tuesday afternoon at around 4.

National Guard from D.C. was patrolling metro stations around the District as well, including the Gallery Place-Chinatown station.

People we spoke to, who live in the DC area, reflected on how they feel seeing troops there.

"DC is a safe city," said Maya Hastings, who has lived in the District for three years. "I think it’s unnecessary. DC crime rate is at an all-time low right now. It’s not what they portray it to be."

"It's a little different," admitted another woman.

Hastings says Metro Police and MPD are doing their jobs just fine.
