Chengxuan Han was the third Chinese citizen in a week to face smuggling charges from the federal government in June.
Federal prosecutors said Han is pursuing a doctoral degree from a university in China.
Her sentencing is set for Sept. 10.
A Chinese citizen accused of bringing biological materials related to roundworms into the country for her work at a University of Michigan laboratory pleaded no contest in federal court.
Chengxuan Han entered the plea during a plea hearing Aug. 19 in U.S. District Court in Detroit. She pleaded no contest to three counts of smuggling goods into the United States and one count of false statements, according to court records.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 10. Han could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison on the smuggling charge and up to five years
