After a truck driver was arrested in a deadly crash on Florida's Turnpike , Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling for action, saying the crash highlights the failures of the nation's immigration system.

Harjinder Singh, 28, is in federal custody and facing three counts of vehicular homicide after investigators said he made an illegal U-turn on the Turnpike near Fort Pierce.

The rig crossed in front of a minivan that was crushed by the truck, killing three people inside: a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, a 54-year-old man from Miami, and the van’s 30-year-old driver.

During a news conference, DeSantis was quick to criticize the federal government, saying that an undocumented immigrant should never have been driving a semi-truck in Florida.
