Florida's immigration detention facility located at an isolated Everglades airfield surrounded by mosquito-, python- and alligator-filled swamplands went from a video on X to reality in a matter of days, and has had an eventful few weeks since it opened.

The facility, referred to by the state as " Alligator Alcatraz ," opened earlier this month, just days after Florida's attorney general pitched his idea for it on X .
