CONCORD, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Cabarrus County’s manager was fired Monday night after a split commissioner vote.

Commissioner Lynn Shue made the motion to fire Sean Newton during the county board meeting, which was quickly seconded by Board Chair Jeff Jones. Shue said it was “with cause,” but did not go into specifics.

Newton was only five months into the job, which oversees day-to-day county operations performed by more than 1,400 employees across multiple departments.

“This is not a pleasant thing for me, when I owned my own business," Shue said. "I hate doing this."

Commissioners Laura Lindsey and Larry Pittman opposed the decision.

The board approved the termination by a 3-2 vote. It came after a closed session at the very end of the meeting.
