During a recent speech about the challenges the Democratic party faces nationally, former President Obama said out loud what just about all Californians already know: “I don’t care how much you love working people. They can’t afford a house because all the rules in your state make it prohibitive to build.”
There’s no question he had California in mind when he spoke – and this came just days after the release of CNBC’s annual business report which gave California a business friendliness ranking of #48 and cost of living ranking of #50 – the absolute worst in the nation.
Those rankings are not a surprise to anyone who lives here. They reflect a reality Californians experience every day: our state has created one of the most restrictive, complicated, and expensive regulatory environment
